Web Content Management System (CMS)

A content management system (CMS) is a system used to manage the content of a Web site. Content management systems are deployed primarily for interactive use by a potentially large number of contributors. - Wikipedia

The Vectorlight CMS is based on .NET 3.5 and SQL Server database technology ensuring web pages are delivered to your visitors quickly and reliably.  The built-in membership system allows users to register to your website and contribute using the built-in commenting module or Forum.  Users can also tag pages as favourites and subscribe to pages.

Key Features

Here is a list of the key features of our CMS, there are of course many features not listed here.  The full list of CMS features covers in more detail what is possible with the two versions of the CMS.

Silverlight Powered WYSIWYG Interface

Using the latest Microsoft Silverlight .NET web technology allows content editors to manipulate web pages with ease.  The CMS comes complete with a built in real-time spell checker giving you instant indications of spelling errors.

The CMS Editor

Simple Site Treeview Navigation

The website structure is represented using a simple treeview display which allows content editors to change the structure of the website using simple drag and drop operations.

Insert Images from the Server and Upload New Ones

Images can be inserted onto the page using the powerful image insert dialog allowing images to be scaled in size and new images uploaded to the server with a few simple clicks.

Latest News Module

A must for every website is this module which allows news content to be dynamically generated.  Pages can be specified as news articles and given a start and optional end date.  From here the CMS will do the rest and generate your news article list automatically with the latest news.

The Insert Module Dialog

Page Approval

It is important that changes made to a website using the CMS editor do not appear on the live site until they are ready.  With this in mind all page edits must be approved before they appear on the live website.  Using the built-in Page Approval manager you can approve pages easily.

User and Role Management

Users and Roles can be created and managed in the Users and Roles dialog.  New users can be approved or locked users can be unlocked all through a simple interface.  Our CMS uses the standard .NET Membership and Role Provider models allowing developers to easily extend the membership system.

The Users and Roles Admin tool

Metadata

Pages need not only contain visible content.  Using metadata our CMS can provide dynamic functionality.  A simple example of this is the Latest News Module which uses metadata to determine which pages are news articles and when to show them.

A page can contain any amount of metadata and developers can use this to create additional functionality through the use of Modules.

Real-time spell checking (check as you type)

Most people are familiar with Microsoft Word and its instant notification of spelling mistakes, most CMS systems can only perform spell checking from a dedicated dialog.  With our CMS we provide fast real-time (check as you type) spell checking with relevant spelling suggestions.
